Mele Beach and Hideaway Island, Efete

Just around the corner from the casinos, nightclubs, duty free shopping and hords of cruiseship sailors of Port Vila is the tiny Hideaway Island and Mele Beach Bar. Either a two hour sail or a 20 minute cab ride, the anchorage is ideal and protected, so we decided to spend a couple nights there proir to leaving for the next island in the group.

On Friday nights some local preformers put on a fire show and on Sunday nights a circus. Of all the fire shows I have seen in the south pacific this was by far the most impressive. I especially appreciated the fact that they didn't pretend it was some ancient ceremonial thing their ancestors did whilst wearing plastic grass skirts. The preformers wore stylish blue jeans and did their show to modern top 40 music, they even incorporated the local break dancers into the show. They were all extremely talented and took alot of pride in thier preformance. The circus on sunday night was comedic and also very entertaining with juggling and acrobatics. Taking pictures at night with twirling fire balls isn't easy so you'll just have to go check it out for yourself.

The area around hideaway island is a marine reserve and provided for some excellent snorkelling. The second we jumped into the water from the dinghy we were instantly greeted by many fishes expecting to get fed. We were especially treated by finding two cuttle fish which I haven't seen before and an exceptionally large morray eel, probably overweight from beeing hand fed to get him out of his cave.

Please enjoy the pictures, I am hoping that they especially enjoyed by my nieces, nephews and children of all my friends and family. As always looking forward to hearing back from any of my readers!
